The Adidas Spezial Gets the Denim Treatment

The pack is led by the Handball Spezial LT atmos “Denim,” a rugged take with deeper indigo tones, pronounced fraying, and an oversized folded tongue drawn from archival sportswear. A denim tongue patch adds to the workwear reference, while a subtle “Designed in Tokyo” label sits on the interior.

Built on the Handball Spezial, adidas’ 1970s indoor sports silhouette, the shoe retains its low-profile shape, vintage athletic stance, and signature gum outsole, preserving the terrace-era character of the original. 

The shoe's biggest statement comes through the upper, where traditional nubuck is replaced with raw indigo denim, complete with frayed edges and intentional unraveling that create a worn-in look while allowing the material to develop unique patina and texture over time.

Inside, a multi-tone blue insole references layered denim stacks, extending the material narrative beyond the upper. Across both styles, the gum outsole remains unchanged, anchoring the redesign in the silhouette’s heritage.
